Evaluation of science textbook of class viii of Jammu and Kashmir state board of school education on the basis of reactions of teachers and suggestions by experts

Abstract
The present study is related with the, “Evaluation of Class VIII Science Textbook of J & K State Board of School Education on the basis of Reactions of teachers and suggestions by experts”. The study was conducted on 30 teachers and on 10 experts, teachers were randomly selected from 20 private and government High schools of district Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir and experts were purposively selected. Gender equality was maintained where ever possible. Respondents were selected from diverse socio- economic status. Reaction scale developed by the researcher was used for knowing the reactions of teachers and Opinionaire was used for knowing the reactions of experts. Data were analyzed by using frequency. The findings were; According to the Teachers, most of the aspects of the book are up to the mark and need no review but there are certain aspects of the book which need a change such as binding of the book (2.33), size of the book (2.23) and there is unequal distribution of Physics, Chemistry and Biology units in the book (2.43). All these aspects need a change so that the book will attract more and more readers towards it. According to the Experts, there are few aspects in the book which need a serious change so that the book can compete at national level. The aspects of the book which need change are that, in the book there is not enough emphasis on the practicability, lay out not good and well planned, simple to complex pattern not followed and the book does not fulfill all the objectives of teaching the subject. Thus these aspects of the book need to be reviewed to make it a perfect book in all respects.
